Yesterday's Memories, Today's Traditions, Tomorrow's
Legacy. The Appalachian Bowmen began as an idea to promote a sport that
at the time had a small following. In 1967, a group of farsighted men
and women got together, drafted bylaws, and organized weekly shoots
that, they hoped, would expose others to the enjoyment and the
challenges of archery. From humble beginnings in a booth at the Sussex
County Farm and Horse Show, to two highly attended 3-D shoots each year,
the Appalachian Bowmen live up to the hopes of the founding members - to
promote archery.
With limited membership, the Appalachian Bowmen hosts two 3-D shoots
each year. Our Spring Shoot, a traditional equipment - only shoot is in
it's 18th year. Attendance is growing each year and this shoot is
quickly evolving into one of the premier shoots for the traditionalist.
Last year over five hundred archers shooting stick bows, self bows, long
bows and recurves traversed the hills of Sussex County improving their
form.
Our annual August 3-D shoot is highly attended by archers of all ages
and abilities. In our 31st year, our summer shoot has run the
third weekend of August and has become a weekend event for families from
around the tri-state area. Our most recent shoot boasted over nine
hundred shooters shooting carbon, graphite, cedar, and aluminum shafts
at our sixty-plus targets.
Next
Spring, our April 2012 Traditional shoot will be our 19th annual Spring
shoot. It will take place on the last weekend in April - April
27th-29th. Our 2012 Summer shoot is held on the 3rd full weekend in
August - August 18th-19th. Click on the Events tab on the left for more
